University of the Incarnate Word
The program sponsors unique programs to connect students to professionals for informal discussions on topical issues, career guidance, and professional development.. Careers a la Carte is a periodic luncheon that focuses on a different career area each time. The EDGE Leadership Development Program brings in guest speakers of diverse backgrounds for presentations and conversation. EDGE is sometimes a workshop session so that students can take time to analyze their leadership styles. We also travel around San Antonio to take advantage of the cultural and academic opportunities around town.
Students travel during fall break to the Rio Grande Valley to witness the economic and social issues of this border region. The itinerary includes different perspectives on immigration and access to healthcare, education, and housing.
Every spring at our annual Honors Symposium students present the results of their original research and creative projects. Subjects are diverse and range across many disciplines. We also organize a Human Library as a non-threatening way for people to learn about provocative and/or misunderstood topics and lifestyles.
Each fall Honors students organize the Arts & Music Festival as part of Homecoming Week to celebrate the artistic work of the UIW community. The proceeds from the festival and from our annual Pumpkin Patch go to the Honors Study Abroad Scholarship.
