Missouri Southern State University
The Honors Program at Missouri Southern State University is a specially-designed academic path exclusively for high-achieving students that provides specific challenges and opportunities. The most important benefit that the students in our Honors Program enjoy is being a part of a wonderful group of peers who share similar educational values. Honors students have the advantage of a distinguished learning environment, enhanced resources, a strong community to support them, and special recognition designed to help them achieve academically and grow into well-rounded individuals.
Honors students benefit from being part of the Honors community. While Honors students always strive to excel, they are not in competition with each other. Rather, students have the opportunity to take several core classes together and to develop a positive interdependence with each other. Many Honors students choose to room together on campus in Honors housing. Because Missouri Southern State University recognizes the unique needs of its Honors students, the students have priority enrollment; this means they may enroll in classes before the rest of the student body, giving them the opportunity to make a schedule of courses without the worry that the classes they need will be full before they have a chance to enroll. Every Honors course which is completed with a final grade of A or B is identified as an Honors course on the transcript. Finally, Honors students are required to participate in international study experiences during their tenure at Missouri Southern State University. Because international study is the special academic mission of MSSU, a number of established programs already exist, but current honors students are commonly involved in designing and arranging new international study programs within their disciplines.
